Curated by Isobel Johnston
Museum/Object is a curated exhibition of artists whose practice engages with the concept of the museum. Through installation, sculpture, text, moving image, archival intervention, painting, photography, and performative practice, the exhibition considers the museum as a space shaped by display, interpretation, memory, and power.
The exhibition brings together artists whose work responds to collections, archives, exhibition conventions, and institutional histories. Some works disrupt the authority of the vitrine, label, plinth, or archive; others draw attention to absence, erasure, and the stories museums leave untold. Together, these practices reveal the museum as a constructed space - one that can be challenged, re-read, and reimagined.
At its heart, the exhibition is about looking differently: at objects, at systems of display, and at the cultural frameworks that shape what is preserved and what is valued. It invites audiences to reflect on the museum as a place of both wonder and tension, where beauty, knowledge, and power are closely entwined.
Museum /Object offers an opportunity to consider how contemporary artists are reshaping the way we understand museums not only just as keepers of history, but as contested, living spaces open to critique, imagination, and change.
